Daily Prompt: Calling

  • A true calling for me is to be a good human being first. Its all about Raising yourself who has to lift the people around him. Each one of them has a divine purpose for being in our life. There are no flaws in HIS Master Plan.
  • A true calling for me is not to see an obstacle as something you cannot overcome, We should see these obstacles as an objective you can surmount. You welcome it as a challenge you need to achieve or a victory you need to acquire.
  • Do what you say; because saying  the right word only sells your intention. While showing that you mean it what you say can buy trust;however, doing what you say,SEALS IT.
  • A true calling to me is to understand,there is a greater,deeper,more charismatic you,within.

A you that can make others stand by and wonder!

A you that can shake the world and walk with a high head.

  • A true calling to me is to be  a true humble man who reflects modesty like a tree that bends low with the burden of ripening fruits. It is the barren tree that lifts itself high in an empty boast.
  • A true calling for me is to be like a Ocean which receives all streams and rivers. The Ocean’s mighty calm remains UNMOVED;it feels them not.

WHEN DEATH SURROUNDED ME FROM ALL DIRECTION!!

This is a real life, a very dreadful situation when I was working with a multinational company in New Delhi during early 90’s. If I remember correctly it was 1992 when I had a very important and urgent meeting with one of our company’s client based at Merrut in western UP (India), which is about 150 km from New Delhi. It so happened that New Delhi Taxi union called on a strike that day. Since this meeting at Merrut was very important, I decided to take my own car and travel to Merrut. I drove down to Merrut and had my meeting with out client in the afternoon. After finishing my meeting I had lunch with our client and it was around 5 pm I left Merrut to return to New Delhi.

I was driving the car and was alone. After driving for about 100 km, I was passing through an area which was somewhat crowded. I suddenly saw a boy trying to cross the road in a running condition when my car must have been not more than 7-8 ft away from that boy (he must have been around 13 years old). The speed of my car was around 60-70 km/hour. I applied full break but since he was so close to my car, it hit him directly and he flew in the air and fell down about 15-20 ft away from the car. I stopped my car and did not know what to do. Meanwhile, I saw a huge crowd running towards my car from all directions, shouting that kill this driver. They all surrounded my car from all direction and people sat on my car’s roof and bonnet.

I could see my death from all direction. I guess God was with me and He had probably realized that this was not at all my fault and wanted to save my life. While the crowd was shouting against me, a man emerged from the crowd and started telling the crowd loudly-‘Don’t touch this man, let us first take this badly injured boy to a nearby hospital in this car and we will decide the fate of this man later on. The whole crowd became silent and agreed to that man’s advice. A few people lifted that boy from the road and i helped them to keep the boy inside my car, and with two people in my car i drove down straight to a nearby hospital, and requested a doctor to immediately provide the boy medical treatment. The doctor was initially reluctant to admit him as this was a police case. I requested the doctor to do something immediately.  I think some unforeseen divine force was trying to help me and with a little hesitation, doctor immediately admitted the boy in the hospital.

I was most surprised when doctor took me immediately in a separate room and advised me to right away  leave the hospital for my own security. But I was not willing to leave the hospital until that boy was given medical treatment. The doctor kept his hand on my shoulder and told me, “sir, you seem to be a good person and I appreciate your concern for this badly injured boy. This is a very dangerous area and a huge crowd must be shortly coming to this hospital and they can take your life. I know these people very well. So I am requesting you to immediately go away from this place before they reach here.” Meanwhile, some strong inner divine voice was coming to me, telling me to leave  that place. I immediately left the hospital, with a lot of guilt and came to my car. I saw a huge crowd coming from behind towards my car.

I immediately got into my car and drove straight to Delhi and stopped my car only at my Delhi residence. It was a huge relief because I got a second life.Since doctor’s business card was with me,i called up that doctor on phone to enquire about that boy and it was a great mental relief when doctor told me that there was nothing to worry and that boy was better and will be discharged soon from the hospital

Message

If you ever face this kind of dreadful situation, have faith in God. Look up at HIM with all honesty. Stay calm and composed. Don’t get panic. Listen to your inner divine voice because that is God voice. He is guiding you. Act accordingly and nothing can happen to you. Remember that!!

PAUSE AND DECIDE-THE MOST MEMORABLE ADVICE FROM SOMEBODY VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART!!

One of the best piece of advice I have ever got was from my dad-who was my mentor, guide, philosopher and a critic. He made me a person what I am today. This master piece advice from my dad has stayed in my mind ever since. He told me to always remember THREE WORDS:’Pause and Decide!’ These three words were for me not just an articulation of father’s philosophy, but also a  pitchy masterclass  or  sound advice in effective decision-making. Everytime I need to respond to something or take a decision,my dad’s words flash into my mind-pause and decide.

Driven by impulsive responses,we often take decisions in haste.Someone says something to us-and we immediately react with words and actions that come back to haunt us later.Alas! if only we would make it a habit to heed my late dad’s advice.

The next time you are very angry or badly hurt, or need to make a decision, take a deep breadth-before saying a word or moving a finger. The next time something goes wrong and you feel like reacting immediately-JUST HOLD IT!! After the moment has passed, you will find the turmoil or dust settling down. The mind gets clearer. And the decision that follows is usually by far better than what you might have taken in haste.

Our decisions are very often, more like a negative one than a positive choice. We change jobs not because of one negative appraisal feedback session, boss’s outburst of anger or a promotion that we lost out on.We make career choices, break relationship- all in the heat of moment. In an era of increasing download speeds, we seem to be in a hurry to take a decisions. As a matter of fact,in most cases, a cool headed approach would have made for far better, more rational decisions. There is a thin line which seperates haste from speed-but it is a critical decision. It has been well said-‘Decide in haste, repent at leisure’. But unfortunately, we still have not learned our lessons.

I would like to share the story of a spiritual master who went on a pilgrimage with his disciples. The wise old man felt thirsty and wanted some water.A disciple quickly walked over to a nearby stream, jar in hand,to fetch some water. The stream was crystal clear as he could see the sun’s rays on the water.Just as he was about to fill the jar,a bullock cart crossed the stream. As the wheel churned the soil of the bed of the stream, the water turned muddy. It did not look clean enough to drink,so the disciple went back to the master empty-handed, and explained what had happened. The master asked him to wait for a while to allow the mud to settle. When the disciple went back a little while later,he was delighted to find the water was cryatal clear again.

As the master took a sip of the water,he said:’our minds are like that stream. An external event or stimulus-like that bullock cart can cause our mind to get muddled up.When that happens, all you need to to do is relax.Just wait a while and allow the DUST to settle. And your mind will be clear again.

                                                                            Message

So the next time you feel stressed or agitated and want to respond, just think of the bullock cart and the stream.Remember my dad’s advice:

     PAUSE AND DECIDE.

A CHANGE IN PERCEPTION BRINGS ABOUT CHANGE IN REALITY!!

The goal of any change process is the discovery of reality.I want to share with you the story of a farmer in china that will tell you an amazing transformation of a person.

A poor farmer in china was in great distress. He was a peace loving sort of person who had to share a single room with four noisy room-mates.Besides,there were a couple of stray dogs and a few noisy chickens and ducks in the neighbourhood that made it difficult for him to sit quietly or meditate.

Depressed that he could not get over this noise pollution,he travelled a long distance to his Zen master to find a solution to his problem.

Listening to his tale of woe,the compassionate  Master said:If you listen to me carefully,I can try to help you out.” The farmer was all ears. The Master said:  “Go back to your village and invite inside your room the stray dogs, the chickens as well as the ducks.Let them all stay with you for a week besides your four friends. Then come back to me.” Although he was shocked and surprised by his Master’s strange advice, the farmer reluctantly agreed to do as he was asked.

The farmer came back after a week.He was extremely in a bad shape;his hair was disheveled, his clothes were torn in shreds, his eyes were red from lack of sleep and his body smelt of animal dung.He looked tearfully at his Master and said, ‘the experience was worse than hell-those animals and birds and their week long company…..let my fate not befall anyone!

The Master said: “Everything will be all right. Just go back to your village and leave the animals outside your door-where they were before. Then, come back to me again after seven days.” The farmer again did what he was told. But this time when he came back-there was a bright radiance in his face. His eyes were shining and he told the Master, “I have never known or felt so much peace before. Just my four friends and I.No animals in the room.We all slept well. And my meditation was deep.”

Many years later, the farmer himself became a Master. When people asked him how he had found peace,he said. “the journey was indeed memorable. It was like taking great pain to break into your own house by climbing a ladder and  smashing a windowpane-and realizing later that the door of the house was open. All you needed to do was to pull in the door towards you rather than push it.”

                                                               Message

The farmer in the story discovers something that was always present as reality.Peace always existed as a possibility in his own mind.In the process of this discovery he transforms himself.Likewise, peace always exists in our own mind, all you need is to change your perception and there you are!!

YOU MAY BE IN A HURRY, BUT YOU SHOULD STILL HAVE TIME FOR OTHERS.

Hold the door open!

Has this happened to you before? Probably, yes! As you walk towards the door of an office or a hotel, the person walking in  front holds the door open for you.Do you remember how good it made you feel- if only for that moment? The other person holding the door open for you may have been a complete stranger-but that one act leaves an unforgettable impression in your mind and made you feel you had a  caring friend.

Is it not surprising that although we all feel good when someone holds the door open for us,we seldom show such gesture  for others? WHY SO?

It is probably because we are all preoccupied with ourselves and obsessed with getting ahead.I would like to share a life changing lessons they don’t teach you in any school: ‘Hold the Door Open’.

We can divide this world into two types of people. Those who push open the door, walk through and let it slam behind them. That is about 97 percent of the population. And there is the 3 percent who open the door and hold it open to allow the next person to walk through.Learn to do that, and you too could join the select 3 percent club.

Holding the door open is not just an act of courtesy,it is a mindset and it reflects on your UPBRINGING.It says you care for people, that you are not so caught up in your own progress that you have scant regards for others. It demonstrate that while you may be in a hurry, you still have time for others.’Hold the Door Open’does not merely make other people feel good.It makes you feel good too.

The amazing habit of holding the door open translates into a behavior of helping and caring. While travelling in a AC coach of a train, when you keep the glass door open for a co-passenger  behind you, its  a good gesture. At the buffet table, you pick up a plate and offer it to a lady behind you in the queue and the smile you see on her is just priceless. These are all small gestures, but they make a huge difference.Hold the Door Open marks you out as someone special.

Try it.Become  an ‘Hold the Door Open’ person.Winning in life is less about naked ambition and more about helping other people win.Someone has rightly said,’Its nice to be important. But it is more important to be nice!’
