THE ONLY WAY TO INFLUENCE PEOPLE IS TO LEAD THEM BY EXAMPLE!!

My Flying Training was the best phase of my life.It taught me many sensible lessons which I very much remember and cherish even today. When I was undergoing flying training, my instructor and Mentor Wing Commander Vincent Mendonze would often tell me one thing and I still remember his exact conversation. He said something brilliant I want to share with you all. LEAD PEOPLE BY EXAMPLE!!

“Ravi, he said, ” the greatest sermon in life is the one you see.” Very sensible and smart ideas: Make your life your message. Live your truth. Walk your core values. Behave your conviction and philosophy. That’s how you can move those around you to play at their best.NO OTHER WAY!!

It is so easy to talk about a brilliant and a splendid lesson. But far harder to live it. However, the great ones do it. Elegantly.Consistently. Passionately. My dad was one of them.

This reminds me what famous psychologist Abraham Maslow said once, “In order for us to become truly happy, that which we can become, we must become.”

SO SET YOUR OWN EXAMPLE AND LEAD OTHERS.IT WOULD CERTAINLY WORK.

THE LAW OF ONE-POINTED ATTENTION!!

Have you ever heard of one-pointed attention? What is this after-all? Imagine a martial artist who is about to break a solid brick with his bare hand. What does this man do? He stands in one place and focuses his attention on the central part of the brick. His intention is to cut through the solid resistence of the brick with the power of his hand. He draws his whole mental and physical energy to the edge of his hand. The soft hand becomes as sharp and tough as a sword. One-pointed attention channels the vast energy of his mind in the desired direction.

We have to recognize the fact that it is neither information nor physical energy that gives real power. Power comes from the undivided and one-pointed attention, as is evident from the following story:

A Business man was driving in his expensive car through a highway in Dubai. Suddenly, the car’s engine stopped. The Business man tried his hand at the engine. No effect. He decided to walk to the nearest town to get a mechanic. The ragged mechanic came, opened and had a good, long look. Then he took out his hammer and hit gently on a small component of the engine. The car regained its life.

The Business man asked, “How much?”

The mechanic replied, ” That would be a thousand dollars, Sir!”

” What! A thousand dollars just for hammering once?”

” Yes Sir, the break-up is as follows:

One dollar for giving you the information about the problem. A couple of dollars for the energy I spent in striking with this hammer. And nine hundred ninety seven dollars for the one-pointed attention that tell me where to hit and with what force.”

MESSAGE

One -point attention is priceless. Ancient Indian Sages defined an attentive mind as ‘ekagra’, which literally means one-point. You can achieve anything by using law of one-pointed attention.

HOW TO HAVE A MIND OF OF YOUR OWN AND CONVICTION TO BACK IT!!

We all have our own stories to tell about weird questions at job interviews. But have you heard about how Thomas Alva Edison interviewed people who wanted to work with him? That’s an interesting story there!

After the initial round of questions, if Edison came across a bright candidate, he would take him out to dinner before making up his mind on whether to hire him. The interview could continue, and when the food arrived, Edison would take a bite and remark, ‘ I think this needs more salt!’ And then he would watch the candidate.

If the candidate added salt before tasting the food he would not be hired. However, if the candidate tasted the food first and then decided if salt needed to be added Edison would hire him. Edison knew that people who easily believed what other people had to say, or made assumption without first-hand knowledge or experience, would not be able to look afresh at problems and find innovative solutions. They would have closed mind. Edison was looking for people with a mind of their own and the conviction to back it.

We all know people whose potential and dreams remained unrealized because they did not have the conviction to back their instincts. They chose a line of study or career simply because someone else said it was best for them. They did not chase their passion just because someone said it was doomed, it would not work. In many cases, they even gave up even without trying, assuming they could not do it- simply because someone else had said it could not be done. We all have had great ideas but not all of us have gone on to work on them and make them come to life. They later discovered someone else did exactly what we had in mind and found great success.

Do your own things. Make mistakes. Live on the edge. Chase your dreams. Don’t just go by what other people tell you. That may be a safe option but it is unlikely to get you the success you deserve.

GO FOR IT. AND YES, DON’T BLINDLY ADD THE SALT IN YOUR FOOD!!

MESSAGE:

HAVE AN INDEPENDENT AND INNOVATIVE THINKING AND YOUR OWN MIND.

THE MOMENT THE MIND IS FOCUSSED,THE ANSWERS FALL INTO PLACE!!

Our face tells us how to hear. We have two ears on the opposite side of our face, one facing left, and the other facing right, both of them going into the brain. In other words, we must hear from both the sides. If we hear only from one side, we will never understand.

I would like to share with you story of a Japanese warrior and his teacher, a General. In the olden days, they use to send messages through pigeons. So this General sent a message to his student, the warrior, through a pigeon.

But the bird was caught in heavy rain and the student unraveled the message, most of the message was blurred. Nevertheless, the student carried out the instructions of his master to the letter, based on a word or two which was legible, much to the amazement of those around him but not to his master.

He was so focussed as a student that he could read his master’s mind. By reading a word, he knew where the sentence was going. He saw the composite picture beyond his ears and beyond his eyes.

Message

Listen to your teacher or mentor with focus and concentration and you will reap the full benefits of his wisdom. The depth of understanding is in the student, not in the master.

YOU NEED TO BALANCE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO NURTURE HUMAN INTERACTIONS AND RELATIONSHIP!!

Your family, your friends, your loved ones, your colleagues, your doctor, your house help, the stranger you bump into on the street, the stranger you pass by without noticing, all of these people define you. They are your ecosystem and you need to nurture them.

With the advancement of technology and social media, most of us have started living in a cocoon. We usually stay detached from others even when we are having lunch or dinner with them. There are enough options available to keep us entertained without any interaction with a real human being. Human  interaction is in fact now considered a major distraction in our lives that resolve around a virtual world, which we are used to access through our electronic devices.

I agree that Independence is important but it does not have to mean total isolation from the rest of the world. Let us not forget we are human being and, at the most basic level, need to feel a sense of belonging, acceptance, importance security and mutual respect. Even in the virtual world, we find ourselves surrounded by people who share their tiniest achievements in order to receive some “Likes”.This is  how hungry we are for social approval. It is somewhat sad that instead of depending upon our actual ecosystem for such emotional needs, we have started depending heavily upon virtual acquaintances.

As is quite natural, with passage of time, this leads us towards loneliness and even depression. Trust me, social media cannot replace actual or real relationship. You need to understand that a strong, healthy relationship can be one of the best support in our life. It strengthens the mind, health, and our connections with others.

Preserve it! Don’t let it go. Because once you let it slip from your hand, it will never come back to you.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS AND START NURTURING YOUR ECOSYSTEM!!
