This reminds me a proverb which is very close to my heart.
” I have not failed 500 times; I have just discovered 500 ways it won’t work”
WHAT A TERRIFIC EXAMPLE OF PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANC
This goes back to 1870s. Thomas Alva Edison was burning the midnight oil in a workshop in New Jersy. He was trying to invent the light bulb and you all know about it.
He tried many experiments but all without success. He just failed to get it right. His failure became the talk of the town and the story goes that after he had failed for the five hundred time, a journalist interviewed him and asked, ‘Mr Edison, how does it feel to have failed five hundred times? Why don’t you just give it up now?’
‘No,no,young lady,’Edison replied. ‘I have not failed five hundred time. I would rather say,I have just discovered five hundred ways it won’t work. I am so much closer now to finding a way that will surely work!’
Sure enough, in 1879,Edison invented the filament light bulb- an invention that changed the shape of the world. By the time this great scientist died, the man who had failed five hundred times had got 1024 patents to his credit, and founded the famous General Electric Company. But Edison’s real contribution to mankind went beyond all this.
He made it happen and showed us the power of perseverance, the virtue of learning from failure and the magic of never giving up.
To succeed, one must learn to embrace failure and not scared by it
IS NOT IT, MY READER?
