I would start with an old story of a man with a serious illness, who was wheeled into a hospital room where another patient was resting on a bed next to the window. As the two became friends, the one next to the window would look out of it and then start delighting his bedridden companion with beautiful description of the world outside window. He would speak about the beautiful trees in the park across from the hospital and the leaves danced in the wind.He would on other day entertain his friend with replays of the things people were doing as they walked by the hospital. However, with each passing day,the bedridden man got frustrated over his inability to observe the wonderful things his friend described.Eventually,he started to dislike him and then hate him intensly.
It so happened one night that during a bad coughing fit,the patient next to window stopped breathing. The other man, rather than pressing the emergency button for help, chose to do nothing about it.The next morning the patient who had given his friend so much happiness by describing the wonderful sights outside the window was declared dead and wheeled out of the hospital room. The other man quickly asked that his bed be placed next to the window and his request was complied with by the attending nurse. But as he looked out of the window,he discovered something that made him shocked: the window faced a stark brick wall. His former roommate had described a beautiful world outside the window as a loving gesture to make his friend happier during a difficult time.He had acted out of selfless love for his companion.
This story always inspire me to create a shift in my own perspective when I think about it.During your most difficult time, when you are down with negative thoughts,to live happier and more fulfilling lives,we must keep shifting our perspective and continuously ask ourselves,”IS THERE A WISER,MORE ENLIGHTENED WAY OF LOOKING AT THIS SEEMINGLY NEGATIVE SITUATION?”
PL DO THIS AND TRUST ME,THE PLEASURE WILL BE ENTIRELY MINE.
